Being a new mom can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to getting your baby to sleep through the night. If your baby doesn’t sleep, you are most likely not getting the sleep you need either. Not only is delivering a baby physically exhausting but the constant fatigue and exhaustion continues when you bring your new baby home. As a mother, you have to adjust to a completely new lifestyle and routine, while caring for a new person that totally relies on you because they can’t care for themselves. All of this can be overwhelming for a new mother.
As a mom myself, I know how important it is to get a good night's sleep. So, here are some tips that have helped me and other moms I know get their babies to sleep through the night.
- Establish a bedtime routine: Start a consistent bedtime routine early on. This could include a bath, a story, feeding and a song. This will help your baby understand that it's time for sleep.
- Create a comfortable environment: Make sure your baby's room is dark, quiet, and at a comfortable temperature. Use a white noise machine to drown out any outside noises.
- Encourage daytime feedings: Make sure your baby is getting enough food during the day. This will help them sleep longer at night.
- Use a pacifier: Pacifiers can be a great way to soothe your baby and help them fall back asleep if they wake up during the night. Plus, it’s easier to wean a child off of a pacifier than a thumb because their thumb is always available to them.
- Don't rush to your baby: If your baby wakes up in the middle of the night, don't rush to them right away. Give them a few minutes to see if they can settle themselves back to sleep.
- Try sleep training: If your baby is still having trouble sleeping through the night, consider sleep training. This could include methods like the Ferber method or the cry-it-out method.
Remember, every baby is different, so what works for one may not work for another. Be patient and consistent with your approach, and eventually, your baby will learn to sleep through the night. Good luck, moms!
